The modest La Murta stadium in Xátiva will soon get to host the stars of Real Madrid

Following the draw in the Copa del Rey, that paired Segunda B3 side Olímpic de Xàtiva against Real Madrid, their club president Alfonso Rus was understandably delighted that his club will get to host such hugely renown opponents.

“I’m very happy. We were clear that one day we were going to play Real Madrid, that’s what we’d said and now, that’s what will happen. It’s a huge joy for a modest team like ours, with 81 years of history. This only happens once in a lifetime and it’s touched me at a time I’m president, for which I’m very proud.”

Rus also explained that he’d always felt certain that his club would get to face one of the top-flight teams in the cup, from the presentation game at the start of the season.

“The day of the team’s presentation, it occurred to me that I’d had a dream and that we were going to play a team from the Primera and we’ve now realised that dream, but what’s more, it’s like a lottery win for us.”

The Xátiva president is now hoping that Real Madrid bring all their stars for the home game, that takes place at their compact La Murta stadium, over the weekend of the 7th and 8th December.

“We hope that Real Madrid bring them all, Cristiano, Bale, Casillas… I want to see them all here!”
