Given the injury and fitness concerns of Lionel Messi, who limped out of the first-half at Real Betis, replaced by Andrés Iniesta, Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has decided remove the Barcelona star from his list, for the upcoming friendly games this month, based in the USA.

Argentina are due to play Ecuador in New Jersey on Friday 15th November and Bosnia in St. Louis on Monday 18th November, but will do so now without Lionel Messi.

Of the injury itself, Sabella confirmed that he had already spoken with Messi about the thigh injury, when confirming that he shouldn’t travel to the USA to link up with the Argentina squad, but stay with Barcelona and begin his recovery process.

“We’ve spoken and it’s certainly a tear. We’ll have to wait on his recovery and he’s ruled out of these games. I’m not a specialist, though it’s worrying when players suffer repeated injuries in the same location. We have to be optimistic and stay calm about Messi.”
