Ander Herrera silences transfer rumors by pledging loyalty to Athletic Club Bilbao
Ander Herrera has silenced rumors that English giants Manchester United could secure his services in January after missing out in the summer by stating that he is happy at Athletic Club Bilbao and that it is the best place for him to be.
Manchester United missed out on purchasing Ander Herrera this summer when they refused to pay his release clause of €36 million, but recent reports in England have claimed that the Red Devils are again interested in Herrera and could look to bid for his services again in the January transfer window.
Negotiations have been at a stalemate with United unwilling to pay the full release clause and Athletic adamant that they will not entertain any discussions other than the player’s current clause.
In response to the rumors over the past few days, Herrera has finally come out publicly to give his stance on the matter making it very clear that he is flattered by the interested from United, but that he is happy at Athletic and does not want to leave the Basque club.
“I appreciate both Manchester United’s interest in me and the fact that I am considered so important to Athletic that they did not accept any bid for me. That means that Athletic values me above money and trust in me more than money for our current project. I’m right where I want to be. I’m not a player who wants to change teams, I’ve taken root at Athletic and it is the perfect place for me to be.”
Herrera then concluded his statements by giving praise to manager Ernesto Valverde claiming that he is consistent and helping the club find success.
“We have a very good coach. He is a consistent manager and good person. Athletic is going to be very successful under him.”
