Muniain: Valverde taught us how to put pressure on Barcelona

Athletic Club Bilbao striker, Iker Muniain was the lone goal-scorer in the Basque side’s 1-0 upset win over Barcelona on Sunday evening at the Nuevo San Mames and the Spanish U21 star feels that this goal was a long-time coming and will give him confidence moving forward.

MuniainIn his post-match interview, Muniain spoke about the win, including the tactics employed and his goal.

“We played a complete game from the first minute to the end.  We did enough to deserve the win and we did.

“We trained all week on how to play Barcelona and the coach stressed that we needed to press them high and it put us ahead.  We go to sleep in the Champions League, but there’s a lot left in the season. Barcelona have been accused of being fatigued after their midweek game.”

Muniain then discussed his own form and the renaissance after a poor 2012-13 season.

“Today I’m very happy for working with my team to score the game-winning goal. There were some difficult moments, but I have been gaining confidence with every match and now I feel good.

“I feel comfortable in a number of positions; in the midfield, on the wings.  It all depends on the opponent.”
