According to English daily, Metro, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has been given the green light to spend this January and after advancing to the next round of the Champions League, will almost certainly wish to add depth for the long five months remaining in the season.

Griezmann has been at the top of Arsenal’s wishlist for several seasons, but Real Sociedad have drawn a hard line when it comes to transfers, that they are not willing to negotiate the transfer of any of their players and refer all suitors to the release clause of each individual player.

However, due to the Basque side’s early and disappointing exit from the Champions League, they may be forced to negotiate the transfer of Griezmann in order to fund their ongoing project, as was relayed by a source within the club to Spanish sports daily, Marca.

“We want to keep him for as long as possible, but we have a battle to convince him to stay – we know clubs are interested in him.”

Griezmann, in the past, admitted that he would like to venture abroad, but has fallen in line over the past several seasons, making it unknown if he would leave the club.

Yet, with the 2014 World Cup on the horizon and Griezmann’s ban likely to be lifted, the Frenchman could be looking to join his compatriots, manager Arsene Wenger and Olivier Giroud at the Emirates.

Griezmann’s release clause is believed to be around €25 million.
