Ancelotti: It’s amazing that we were down 2-0 with 10 men after starting so well
Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti was disappointed in his side’s 2-2 performance in his first visit to El Sadar and despite coming back to earn a point against Osasuna, feels there is much work to be done after Los Blancos allowed themselves to fall behind by two goals.
In his post-match press conference, Ancelotti spoke about the draw and refused to discuss the decision of referee Clos Gomez to send off centre-back Sergio Ramos, his 18th red card in his Real Madrid career.
“I don’t like to discuss the referee’s decisions. [Ramos’ red card] is a difficult decision for me to understand. The first was not a foul. I don’t know, I don’t know…
“We lost control after they scored the first goal. The first 20 minutes we played well with quality and pace. It’s amazing that we were down 2-0 and with 10 men. It’s difficult to explain. We were lacking a lot. We were well positioned. We had less balance but we had a lot of intensity. The team showed a lot of character and attitude not to lose.”
Ancelotti then explained his substitutions, which were criticised by commentators and pundits throughout the match.
“Di Maria came in for us to play a 4-3-2 like we did against Galatasaray. Modric picked up a knock against Copenhagen and started to have problems. So I subbed him out. Jesé came on to give more of the wings and so we could have more players in the centre.”
