Victor Valdes set to make return against Atletico Madrid
Barcelona goalkeeper, Victor Valdes is in the final stages of his recovery from a torn calf muscle suffered in Spain’s friendly against South Africa one month ago and while he could make his return against Elche on 5th January, he has set his sights on 11th January’s match against joint-league leaders Atletico Madrid to make his return.
Following the freak injury on 19th November, that saw Valdes make a routine push off only to fall to the ground in pain, the Catalan has dedicated himself to his recovery in what will be his final season at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona, on the other hand, are desperate to get him back after losing two (Ajax and Athletic Bilbao) out of the eight matches he’s been out.
While the 38-year-old Jose Manuel Pinto has filled in admirably, Valdes was on the best form of his career and his leadership has been sorely missed.
Valdes will return to the squad five days after the first of the year, meaning he will be free to negotiate the contract of his new team, until his contract with Barcelona expires on 30th June, 2013
