Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is out of contract at the end of the current season, and while the Spanish club desires to see him sign an extension, Cadena Ser claims he will be leaving the club.

Real Madrid representatives have been hard at work negotiating a new deal for Xabi Alonso whose current contract is expected to expire at the end of the current season, though progress has not been made.

According to Spanish Cadena Ser, the club is not confident that Alonso will sign a new contract and claims that he is looking for a change of scenery to continue his footballing career.

“Real Madrid is not optimistic about the possible renewal of Xabi Alonso. The issue is not sporting or economical, rather he desires a change of scenery for himself and his family. Although Alonso has not signed with another team, Real Madrid is aware that he does not want to renew and expects him to leave in the summer.”

As of January 1, Alonso will be free to negotiate with other clubs to decide his future, though Real Madrid will continue to attempt negotiations until something is decided by the 32-year-old.
