Following the contract extension of midfielder Andres Iniesta, Barcelona’s next contract extensions is that of breakout centre-back Marc Bartra with the two sides reportedly already in agreement and are just waiting the approval of Bartra’s agent Magico Diaz to give the green light.

According to Spanish sports daily, Mundo Deportivo, Bartra has proven to be the heir apparent to Carles Puyol, putting in impressive performances and warranting an improved deal to not only keep him from would-be suitors but also to reward the 22-year-old for his efforts on the pitch.

Bartra is free to negotiate a new contract with teams as of January 1st and Barcelona are looking to finalise and announce the deal before the winter transfer window opens up.

Barcelona will look to sign Bartra for five more seasons (2019), something that Bartra himself has expressed would be his ideal situation as he has no desire to leave his boyhood club.

Bartra has started seven of the nine games he’s played in La Liga this season.
