Mascherano: Messi should think about himself and come back when he’s at his best

Barcelona centre-back, Javier Mascherano recently discussed the injury to his Argentine national team captain and Blaugrana teammate, Leo Messi and stressed that the four-time Ballon d’Or winner should only return to action when he is fully fit.

In an interview on Wednesday, Mascherano spoke about Messi’s two-month recovery process for a torn hamstring and feels that after the forward has struggled since March with countless hamstring problems, the best think for the 26-year-old is to allow himself as much time as needed to heal.

“I say this in the best way possible; he needs to think about himself.  He needs to recover and come back when he’s at his best.

“It’s never a good thing to be injured because one can’t do what they want, but a lot of times it’s not a bad thing to take it easy and relax.  That’s what happened to me when I was injured.”

Messi is expected to make his return to Barcelona following the Christmas break and is expected to be fully fit of Barcelona’s crucial match up on 11th January against La Liga co-leaders, Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon.
