Real Betis hope to land Atletico Madrid’s Leo Baptistão this January
Last-place Real Betis are hoping to change their fortunes and reinforce their squad in the January transfer window and have targeted Atletico Madrid’s young striker, Leo Baptistão as their top choice and are prepared to spend a a sizable amount to land the Brazilian-born youngster.
According to Spanish sports daily, AS, following the recent sacking of former Betis sporting director, Vlada Stosic, his replacement, Sergio Fernandez has already begun working with the board to narrow down a list of prospects to bring in during the transfer window, with Baptistão being at the top.
Real Betis are unable to afford most of their targets and are therefore looking at loans, but are willing to pay top dollar for Baptistao, who has failed to see playing time this season behind Diego Costa and David Villa.
Atletico Madrid are set to make a decision on Baptistao’s future when the squad regroups following the Christmas break, but doesn’t want to deplete the squad if there are no reinforcements coming in.
Baptistao showed great promise last season with Rayo Vallecano and after starting the season late, as he was still recovering from a broken collar bone, he has been slowed by several other injures and has failed to see a sufficient amount of time on the pitch.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are linked with Aston Villa’s Belgian striker, Christian Benteke as a compliment to Golden Boot-leading striker, Diego Costa, relieving the Spanish international from the goal-scoring burden.
