In a recent interveiw with Spanish sports daily, Marca, Koke praised his parents, his brother and even his youth idol Fernando Torres for helping him get to where he is today.

“My parents have always helped me with everything. They’ve dropped everything so they can help me to achieve my dream. I’m very close to my brother. It’s thanks to him that I can be where I am now.

“Torres is a great example for everyone. Everything he’s gone on to achieve fills young players at Atlético with pride. We use him as an example so we can try to achieve our own dreams, both with Atlético and with the national side. I’m doing everything that I can to keep the technical staff happy, and obviously to try and go to Brazil with the national side next summer.”

Koke went on to discuss his first title he won with Atletico Madrid, the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup.

“I only played three minutes in the final [of the Europa League], but I was really excited to have helped my team win a title. [The UEFA Super Cup is] one of the best games that we’ve played. I played from the start and it was a very happy day for me.”

Koke concluded by discussing what it felt like to finally beat Real Madrid to win the Copa del Rey.

“The images say it all. It was an incredibly tough game. Many years had gone by without beating them, but there was a moment where we started to think that it was our day, that we believed in ourselves and thought we could win.”
