Barcelona reportedly held several meetings with Gündoğan’s representatives
Barcelona have reportedly held several meetings with the father and uncle of Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Ilkay Gündoğan, who the Blaugrana see as an eventual replacement for Xavi Hernandez.
According to German sports daily, Bild, Ilkay’s father, Irfan Gündoğan and his uncle/representative “met with representatives of Barcelona several times” but didn’t specify who they spoke to or where.
Meanwhile, the Turkish-born German international has a contract with Dortmund until 2015 and is being sought out by not only Barcelona, but La Liga rivals Real Madrid and English Premier League leaders, Arsenal.
Gündoğan, who has been out of action for five months with an injured vertebrae and recent spoke to Bild about his future and insists that at this time, Dortmund are his first priority.
“I have not made a final decision yet. Borussi Dortmund are the first team I am talking to. I will soon make a well-thought decision. But I am keeping my options open at this point.
“Borussia Dortmund have not set me an ultimatum. I am just trying to get healthy again and get back to my best form. That’s the main priority for Dortmund and for myself.”
