Barça show interest in Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte

Barcelona are reportedly interested in Athletic Bilbao’s young French centre-back Aymeric Laporte and are willing to pay the player’s release clause of €36 million.

According to Basque public radio station, Euskadi Irratia, Laporte, who just signed a new contract with the club several weeks ago and subsequently raised his release clause, has caught the attention of the Blaugrana and the club is willing to dole out the necessary release clause, knowing full well that Athletic president, Jose Irrutia never negotiates transfers and always refers to the player’s respective release clause.

Despite playing a handful of games and showing great promise, this has been the 19-year-old’s breakout year, featuring in 18 matches, 17 as a starter and scoring two goals.

The 1.89m centre-back is also only the second Frenchman to play for Athletic Bilbao and was just recently named as one of three defenders in the LFP’s Best XI of the first round of the 2013-14 La Liga season.
