Chelsea striker, Samuel Eto’o was one of many footballers affected by the sudden death of former Spanish national team manager, Luis Aragonés, but perhaps the most unlikely was that of the Cameroonian international, who unbeknownst to many fans outside of Spain, played under Aragonés at Mallorca and considered the Spaniard a father figure.

In a statement via his official twitter account, Eto’o sent out a heartfelt message of sadness at the loss of his former manager and mentor and praised Aragonés for the role he played in his development as not only a footballer, but a man as well.

“My heart is in profound pain on this day, as a great man has left us. More than a coach, Luis Aragonés was like a father to me.

“I keep wonderful memories of our relationship and of my experience at Mallorca. Dear papa, thank you for all you have tought us, you will be missed.”
