Brazilian footballing legend, Pele has praised compatriot, Neymar for his decision to join Barcelona ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and hopes the experience he gains against the highest competition will prove worthwhile with the Brazilian national team this summer.

In an interview with Reuters, Pele spoke about Neymar’s decision and the “significant experience” he will gain.

“He’s our boy, he’s a wonderful young man and the decision he made to join Barcelona was good for Brazil.  He’s gaining very significant experience.”

Pele went on to add that he disheartened by his country’s delays in production of the facilities for the World Cup, as he feels that being given the opportunity to host the Confederations Cup, World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games was a perfect opportunity for progress for this country in terms of “tourism, infrastructure and transportation.”

“We had the perfect opportunity for Brazil to progress and take advantage of these three events. The people should have had progress in tourism, infrastructure and transportation, but unfortunately this hasn’t been accomplished.”

However, Pele is optimistic that his country will come good and be prepared ahead of this summer.

“I am, like everyone else, is concerned. We want everything to go well, but unfortunately we keep having all these problems.   However, there is still time and after four years of fighting, I’m sure everything will turn out well.”
