by Tom Conn | Posted on Sunday, February 9th, 2014

Real Madrid defender, Marcelo was forced to leave the pitch early on in his side’s 4-2 win over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening after suffering what looked like a lower back injury, but the Brazilian announced shortly after the match that it was just a knock and nothing serious.

In the 18th minute of the match, Marcelo was seen in obvious discomfort after challenging a Villarreal player, the Brazilian made his way to the sidelines and was replaced by Fabio Coentrão before heading the locker room to undergo tests.

Marcelo took to twitter shortly after the match to announce that it was merely a “scare” and that there was no serious injury, but all the same, he thanked the fans for their messages of support.

“Thank you for your messages! I feel very good, it was only a scare!!! Big hug to everyone and what a great victory today!!! #halamadrid”

Now everyone’s focus turns to the man who came on for Marcelo, Fabio Coentrão, who was forced to retire from the match in the second half after he suffering yet another muscle injury, the extent of which is currently unknown.
