Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric has been the engine that has driven Real Madrid to incredible success over the past several months and following Saturday evening’s 4-2 win over Villarreal, the Bernabeu stood and gave the Croatian midfielder an ovation.

ModricIn his post-match interview with Real Madrid TV, Modric was grateful to the fans for the ovation and considers a great moment in his Real Madrid career.

“The victory is very important because we faced a very difficult opponent and we’re coming off a great physical and mental effort against Atletico Madrid.  These are three very important points.

“It’s great that the Bernabeu shouted my name.  I am very grateful.  I’m at a good moment, as is the team.  That’s what matters.  I’m very proud and I thank the fans.”

Modric then discussed the upcoming second leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal at Atletico Madrid and despite having a three goal advantage, Los Blancos cannot afford to rest of their laurels.

“We can’t afford to be complacent, despite having a great game in the first leg.  The tie isn’t decided and we have to play at the Vicente Calderon as if it were zero to zero.  We need a goal to kill the tie.”
