Former Barcelona assistant manager, Andries Jonker, who currently plies his trade in Germany, gave his thoughts on Barcelona transfer target Marc Andre Ter Stegen and feels the 21-year-old German is a “very good” option to take over for departing goalkeeper, Victor Valdes.

In an interview with Catalan Radio programme, ‘La Xarxa’, Jonker, who served under Louis van Gaal during his time at the Camp Nou, feels Ter Stegen has the skills to replace Valdes, but wonders if he can handle the constant pressure of playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“The question is whether he’ll do it at Barça. Vitor Baía was also a top goalkeeper, one of the best in the world, when he signed.  [Ter Stegen] has more than enough ability and talent to play for Barça, but he can’t afford to make mistakes.”

It has been widely reported that Ter Stegen has already reached an agreement with Barcelona, but they are waiting on Victor Valdes to announce his future before presenting the German international as his replacement.
