Sevilla president, Jose Castro has announced that the club has reached a principal agreement with captain, Ivan Rakitic over contract renewal terms that will keep the midfielder at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan until 2018.
In a recent interview El Desmarque, Castro revealed that the talks were well advanced and at the point where he felt comfortable announcing that there was a principal agreement that had been reached.
“Yes, we’re in advanced talks with Rakitic. We’ve had two meetings and I believe that we’ve reached a cordial agreement. I don’t believe there will be any problems in signing a new contract in the next several days.
“It’s an important operations, perhaps the most important the club can aspire to at this time.
“The principal agreement is clear and there shouldn’t be any problem announcing the renewal in the next several days. I cannot reveal the details as we’re still in negotiations.”
Castro refused to reveal the terms, length of contract and release clause, which will likely all be revealed when the deal is finally announced, but later on in the day, announced that the deal was a four-year extension.
Rakitic has been the target for countless European clubs, but the Swiss-born Croatian international is adamant that he wished to remain at Sevilla for as long as possible.
