Speaking with broadcasters Telecinco just after the final whistle at the Vicente Calderón, Diego Costa was asked for his first impressions, having made his debut for La Roja in the 1-0 victory against Italy.

“I’m very happy with my debut, winning is the most important thing to gain confidence. The first game is never easy. I’m happy, but I know I have much more to give.”

As for settling in to the tiki-taka style of the Spanish national team, the Atlético Madrid striker simply explained: “I’ll have to adapt and gain the confidence needed. I’ll keep trying to do well and to get more opportunities with the team.”
