Valencia defender Ricardo Costa has ruled out for at least four to five weeks, after further analysis diagnosed a more severe ankle injury, than previously thought.

Having performed further examinations on the ankle injury, which Ricardo Costa sustained in the first-leg of the Europa League clash with Dynamo Kiev, the medical services at Valencia have published their findings.

Following scans and tests, the club announced that Costa is suffering an ankle edema affecting the tibia and talus, therefore causing pain and restricting movement in the joint.

Fortunately however, the Portuguese centre-back won’t require surgery to correct the injury, with rest, recovery and physiotherapy the best course of treatment, in his particular case.

As such, Costa is now expected to be sidelined for an estimated period of four to five weeks.
