Alonso rejects Real Madrid extension
Posted by Staff Writer on August 13th, 2012 09:19 AM | News, Primera LigaReal Madrid defensive midfielder, Xabi Alonso has rejected a contract extension from the club and is reportedly willing to entertain offers next June.
- By Tom Conn Follow @TomConnISF
Alonso, whose contract with Los Blancos expires in June 2014, has rejected a two-year contract extension from the club and would be willing to entertain transfer offers, as his next contract could potentially be his final big payday.
Real Madrid have renewed the contracts of Angel di Maria, Raul Albiol, Alvaro Arbeloa, has plans to announce the contract renewal of Gonzalo Higuain and are hoping to negotiate with Pepe and Sergio Ramos in the next several weeks.
However, despite being content in Madrid, Alonso feels that he has accomplished a lot at Real Madrid and could be looking for an adventure in another league, after Serie A champions submitted a bid for the midfielder, which was immediately rejected by manager, Jose Mourinho.
Yet, if Alonso does decide to continue down this path, Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez would need to sell him next summer, as he would not be willing to risk the player walking away for free in 2014.
As of now, a contract extension rejection means very little, as Alonso has two years to contemplate his future, in the meantime, Perez and Mourinho are on pins and needles at the thought of losing one of their greatest playmakers.
