April 7, 1985 against Sevilla was the last time we saw a Blaugrana side contest a match at midday. Fast forward to this season and on February 10 at Camp Nou, Barca will host Getafe in the early kick off slot.
The Sevilla game was played at the earlier time due to the Easter holiday period and a very popular bullfight at La Maestranza in Seville, due to be staged that afternoon.
Barcelona players took the opportunity alongside 13,000 other spectators of watching big name bull fighters of the time, Curro Romero and Lucio Rafael de Paula Sandin, parade their skills. As such, the entire Barca party were delayed coming back to Catalonia until the evening.
There is no such romantic story this time, and Barca President Sandro Rosell is not best pleased: “We do not like playing at noon because at the Camp Nou [football] is played in the evening or at night. But we will comply”.
This is only the 3rd time in 33 years Barca will be playing at this time slot, the other being January 6, 1980 when the Blaugrana played out a goalless draw at Vallecas against Rayo Vallecano.
