Following an urgent board meeting, convened whilst Mauricio Pellegrino was in the midst of his post-match press conference, Valencia have decided to sack their manager.

News from the Mestalla is that Valencia have relieved Mauricio Pellegrino of his managerial duties, following the 5-2 defeat against Real Sociedad and amidst angry protests from fans.

“We have informed Mauricio Pellegrino that he will not be continuing on the bench at Valencia.”

These were the first words od Club President Manuel Llorente, as he began a hastily convened press conference, to announce the dismissal of the Valencia manager.

“We talked to him and it has been a painful decision.” Added Llorente, who also suggested that the board feels “responsible”, whilst also stressing that they have to “make such decisions.”

Sporting Director Braulio Vázquez, alongside Manuel Llorente, said that there would be no rush to appoint a replacement, as it is “important to be certain” about who they appoint. It was also stated that member of the coaching staff Voro, “will take charge of the team on a temporary basis.”
