When we reported that Jaume Cladera relinquished his RCD Mallorca presidency, just before Christmas, we felt that current manager Joaquín Caparrós had arguably lost his biggest supporter, amongst the board of directors.
For some time there have been rumblings in the background at the club, as they’ve struggled to perform this season. Some of the disagreements in the boardroom, appear to be what prompted Jaume Cladera to call time on his tenure at the club.
Without his biggest supporter to keep discontented voices in check in the boardroom, Joaquín Caparrós may face a difficult time ahead.
According to Cadena COPE, board member and major shareholder at the club, Utz Claassen, has an agreement with German legend Lothar Matthäus, to become the next Mallorca manager. He also wants to replace Sporting Director Lorenzo Serra Ferrer, a remaining supporter of Joaquín Caparrós as manager.
Amidst turmoil and differences of opinion in the boardroom, irrespective of how well the team do on the pitch in the coming weeks, Caparrós now knows he’s in a difficult position, with diminishing support from the men upstairs.
