Villarreal have named former Sevilla manager, Marcelino Garcia Toral as the team’s new first team coach after a one day search, following the sacking of former manager, Julio Velasquez on Sunday evening following a draw with Almeria.

Marcelino_Garcia_Toral_MDSIMA20130114_0431_10Following the shocking death of Manolo Preciado, who was appointed manager less than 24 hours before his unexpected death, Velasquez was somewhat hurriedly hired to take over the Yellow Submarine.

Velasquez was unable to achieve the desired results and was promptly sacked on Sunday evening.

Marcelino will now take over the managerial duties until the end of the season, with his first full training session on Tuesday before being officially presented by the club.

Marcelino will face a difficult task, as the club’s board of directors will not accept anything less than promotion to the Primera Division and Villarreal currently find themselves in 7th place and six points back from challenging for the playoffs.
