Following another defeat at the Mestalla, Roberto Soldado says the team on the pitch are to blame, not those off it.

Roberto SoldadoThe defeat at the weekend against Rayo Vallecano continued the disappointment of home fans at the Mestalla, with many calling for the head of Club President, Manuel Llorente.

Valencia striker Roberto Saldado however, believes the finger of blame should point at the players.

“Everyone is free to think what they like, but if you have to blame someone, it’s those of us on the pitch who are responsible for the situation we’re going through. We feel that responsibility and if anyone needs to say anything, it should be to us and not towards the presidential box, where everyone has their eyes.”

Of the defeat against Rayo, Soldado said: “It was our return” to Mestalla “and we wanted to show a reaction to the previous games, but it wasn’t to be. The team is hurting, but we’re looking forward to to the game on Friday, to change this situation, gain confidence in ourselves and the coaching staff that has arrived, to take things forward.”

Looking ahead to the next match against Getafe, Soldado admitted: “They have more points than us and are ahead in the league,” but more positively added, “we want to give our fans a goodbye to 2012 they deserve, which is with a win and I have trust in the team.”

“Now there’s no more margin for error.” Stated the Valencia striker. “We’re seven points from the Champions League places.” In conclusion, he added that “If we want to finish in fourth place at the end of the season, we need an immediate reaction against Getafe, the way things stand.”
