Still no Copa final venue as both clubs want Bernabeu

Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao have told Spanish league officials they want to play the Copa del Rey final in the Santiago Bernabeu but no agreement has been made with Real Madrid.

A meeting held on Monday morning that was attended by officials from both Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao has ended with no agreement being reached.

Both clubs have come to the decision that Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu would be the ideal location but renovation work and Real’s unwillingness to hold the final has delayed a decision.

Bilbao president Jose Urrutia told reporters: “I am representing the fans of Athletic Bilbao and they want the final to be played at the Bernabeu.”

Barcelona representative Toni Freixa also said : “Real Madrid should be proud that two teams like Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao want to play the final in the Bernabeu.”

The issue will now be discussed again in 10 days time with both clubs and officials meeting for a second time.

Yes, Forgive Barca for trying to find a neutral site, as to not have an unfair advantage. All the while trying to play in the second largest stadium in Spain to maximize the revenue from ticket sales. Shame on them….what are they thinking? Of course Real Madrid are the only ones allowed on such Hallowed ground….
