Espanyol midfielder, Joan Verdú has revealed that there are no updates on his contract renewal and with his contract set to expire in June 2013; he could soon be on the market if the Catalan club does not make an enhanced effort to re-sign him.

Verdú addressed the media in a mid-week press conference and discussed his current contract and the status of the club, who find themselves at the very bottom of the league.

“For now, there is nothing new.

“Now`s not the time for personal issues, they must be put aside with the team is in a relaxed place, there is no rush.

“I don`t like to look and see the league table.  We need to keep working, do well and we will get out of this situation as soon a possible.

“We are on the right path; the work and attitude against Valladolid was good, I hope the points come soon.”

Verdu concluded by stating that the locker room unity is vital to the success of the club.

“We need to maintain the unity in the locker room; this will carry us through the end.”
