The game took place in the wee hours of the morning, but 7-3 was certainly not a score we were expecting from the first Madrid derby in the United States.
Even as a pre-season game, the nature of the defeat would’ve been a tad alarming for Real Madrid fans, and here is what two newspapers in the Spanish capital ran on the game.
The game was a bizarre one- Joao Felix scoring his first Atleti goal in under ten minutes, Diego Simeone’s men leading 5-0 at half time, Diego Costa scoring four by himself and then getting sent off along with Dani Carvajal, but not before sparking a mass brawl.
A good result for Cholo Simeone given the rebuilding at the Wanda this summer, and Felix, at first glance, certainly looks worth the 126 million Atleti splashed on him.
